ALOHA painting with wool by Brenda J. Ellis, Painted Mermaid Designs.
The original drawing was inspired by my love of mermaids and a beautiful sunset in Hawaii. I hand draw all my patterns, this design on fine linen due to using #2,3,4 and 5 cut wool. I dip dyed the sunset wool in order to hook the gradual changes of color. The ocean water hooked horizontally and working into the blue and purple spot dye. The tail is also a spot dye with sari-silk yarn for scales and highlights. Skin was value-dyed and hair over-dyed textured plaid wool. The dark sand was mottled brown, black and cream over silver sparkle wool. Some wool roving yarn was incorporated into the hibiscus leaves and tail accents. The measurements are 16" X 32" and has a black wool corded edge framing the image. Now available on my www.Etsy.com /shop / paintedmermaiddesign
